Why a checkout may ask for more
Verification can be part of a merchant’s or payment provider’s risk controls. It may be triggered by the purchase amount, merchant category, new device, country, billing information or a routine payment-security check.
Use only the expected flow
Complete a request only when it appears inside the legitimate merchant or official card flow you opened yourself. Never give a recovery phrase or private key to complete card verification. Do not send a one-time code to someone who contacted you unexpectedly.
If a verification step fails
- Check the merchant domain and checkout information.
- Confirm the card information and current card status.
- Read the exact displayed error instead of repeatedly retrying.
- Use the merchant’s official support channel for its checkout rules.
Verification requirements can change from one purchase to the next. A guide cannot predict an individual merchant’s decision.
