Virtual cards for international online payments

An online merchant in another country may have different currency, acceptance and verification requirements. Treat each checkout as its own decision.

Check the merchant first

Read the merchant’s supported-payment, billing-country and refund information before you enter any card details. A virtual card can be available for eligible online payments, but a particular merchant may apply its own restrictions or decline a payment for reasons outside the card plan.

Understand the total amount

Check the purchase currency, taxes, shipping, trial-to-paid transition and any merchant conversion option. A transaction can include more than the product’s displayed headline price, and conversion, processing, network or third-party charges may apply where disclosed.

Before you submit a payment

  • Confirm the site is the merchant’s real domain and uses a secure checkout.
  • Check the card balance and plan’s stated limit.
  • Keep a record of merchant support and refund terms.
  • Do not use a VPN, unusual device or copied payment page to bypass merchant rules.

International availability can vary by plan, card status, location, merchant, issuer and payment-provider rules. Review the live information before relying on a card.
