Limits

What happens when a card reaches its monthly limit?

A plan’s stated monthly limit is an important planning number. It should be treated as a boundary to monitor, not as an amount to try to work around.

Know the stated plan limits

Standard lists up to $4,000 per month. Gold and Platinum each list up to $50,000 per month. The word “up to” matters: your current eligibility, account and transaction conditions can affect what is available.

When spending approaches the limit

Review the current card information and future recurring payments. Do not attempt to divide a payment, create additional accounts or use other workarounds to evade limits or merchant rules. If you need a different stated plan, compare its terms before applying.

Plan ahead for subscriptions

  • Track recurring charges due later in the month.
  • Leave room for merchant adjustments or conversions where applicable.
  • Check the card term, balance and card status regularly.
  • Read the current plan information before changing a card choice.

A monthly limit does not guarantee that a purchase below that number will be accepted.
